Accessibility at Radical Abundance Thrift Shop
Accessibility is important to us! Please ask a staff member at the store (anyone with a name tag) or reach out to us at hello@radicalabundancepdx.org with any questions or suggestions.
Parking
There is a parking lot that can get full after 5pm, but fairly available earlier in the day. There is free parallel parking along the street.
Wheelchair
We are on a curb 1 step above the parking lot, and the curb cut to get onto it is in front of Gado Gado on the south side of the parking lot.
We try to space our racks to ADA standards, but sometimes the racks shift with use and create tight corners. Please let us know if that's happening.
We have 1 ADA-accessible fitting room, and an ADA accessible bathroom.
Seating
We have:
-
seating within our 2 fitting rooms to be used while trying things on
-
a stool by the shoes for trying on shoes (or just to rest)
-
a chair to the left of the register area for resting
-
a small couch for resting in the sorting area, but please ask a staff member and we would be happy to clear the way for you
Lighting
Our store is lit by bare fluorescent lighting. In response to feedback, we only light 3 of the 5 rows of lights. Visibility can sometimes be slightly lower in some parts of the store due to this, but otherwise the shop is fairly bright. We have large windows that let in natural light on the front of the store, so visibility is better during daylight.
If you are light sensitive, let us know and we can possibly lower another row of lights during your visit.
Music
Music and volume is controlled by whoever is working and often changes day to day by mood. We have 1 speaker, which means that corner of the store is louder than the rest of the store. If it is ever uncomfortable, let us know and we can adjust it.
Speaking
We currently do not have ASL speakers on staff, but we welcome other modes of communication for anyone deaf, hard of hearing, or nonverbal such as text, writing, and simple gestures.
Restroom
We have a public restroom.
Water and snacks
We carry water and snacks mostly for staff and volunteers, but anyone needing a refreshment or calorie boost is welcome to ask. Please don't shop til you drop!
